What Every Scout Should Know

Meeting series with hands on practical sessions

This is a meeting theme that could go along way.  The idea behind this meeting series is to teach your Scouts skills that are practical and they can carry into the future.  From taking a quick pole of your PLC, you may find that only a Scout or two has experience with these skills.  Here are some ideas you can use:

AUTOMOTIVE MAINTENANCE
How to change a car tire.
How to check and change the oil of a car.
How to replace a fuse in a car.
How to change the wiper blades.

HOUSEHOLD MAINTENANCE
About electrical circuit breakers
Plumbing 101
Electrical wiring
Toilet Ins and Outs
Soldering
Sewing by hand
Sewing with a machine
Carpentry

BICYCLE MAINTENACE
How to change a tire
How to change the breaks
How to change a cable
Tuning the bike
Sizing a bike

Ask your adults what skills they have. This is a great time to get your adults involved in the troop. With small asks.

The more hands-on for your Scouts you can make these, the more fun they'll have and the more they'll get out of it.

Sewing by Machine: have your scouts make something they can use.  Neck gaters or Wrist gaters are easy and practical.  Purchase a variety of fleese material colors so Scouts can personalize their gaters.

Sewing by hand:  have your scouts bring in the merit badges they just earned and teach them how to sew then on their sash and their rank on their uniform.
