Campfire Closings

Just as I am, young, strong, and free
To be the best that I can be;
For truth, and righteousness and Thee
Lord of my life, I come.

Deep peace of the shining stars to you,
Deep peace of the flowing air to you,
Deep peace of the running water to you,
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you,
Deep peace of the Prince of Peace to you.

(to be said while taps is being hummed)
Clear, throe the gathering dusk a bugle sounds,
While throe the silent hills the call resounds,
They stand erect to honour close of day.
As 'neath the stars the echoes softly fade,
An ever-ruling sense of peace is there;
Since God is nigh, no need to be afraid,
He hears the slightest whisper of a prayer.

Remember the times you've had here,
Remember the friendships true,
Remember the songs we've sung here,
And all the haunts so dear to you.
Remember the hills and woodlands,
The waters and skyline too;
For campers belong to Camp....... camp name)
And ...... (camp name) belongs to you.

My friends:
The coals of this campfire burn low.
Our campfire is nearly ended.
Let the smoke of its dying embers
Carry our prayers to the One Great Spirit.
(Scout silence)
Our campfire is ended!

The toils of the day are over
We raise our prayers to Thee
And ask that free from peril
The hours of dark may be
O God keep us in Thy sight
And guard us through the coming night.

The day Thou gavest, Lord, is ended;
The darkness falls at Thy behest;
To Thee our morning hymns ascended,
Thy praise shall sanctify our rest.

From western skies the colours slowly die,
The stars above the pines their watches keep.
Another joyous day goes swiftly by,
Another night bestows her gift of sleep.

If radio's slim fingers
Can pluck a melody from night
And toss it o'er a continent or sea;
If the soft-petalled notes of a violin
Are blown o'er mountains or a city's din;
If songs, like fragrant roses,
Are culled from thin blue air,
How then, can mortals wonder
If God hears prayer?

Now the daylight goes away
Savior listen while we pray
Asking Thee to watch and keep
And send to us a quiet sleep.

The day was long, we've worked and played,
And round this fire, we've good friends made,
We've shared a friendship fine and deep,
And now this circle leaves to sleep.

We came as strangers,
We go as brothers,
May the spirit of . . . (camp name)
Be with you always.

Now as we close our last campfire,
Let's pause for a moment and praise
The almighty God who saw fit to inspire
Our founder, who gave us these days.

I have known the peace of silent hills,
I have learnt whate'er betide
Though paths of life can turn east or west
Camp friends can ne'er divide.

Strength to complete my given task
And willingness all need to share
These only for the day I ask
Whatever burden I must bear.

The Lord bless us and keep us;
The Lord make His face to shine upon us,
And be gracious unto us;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon us,
And give us peace.

May the Lord grant us His blessing
And fill our hearts with the spirit
Of truth and peace, now and for evermore.

Around the fire's glow the silent night
Pressed close and closer to the dying flame,
And in the narrowing circle of its light
Closer and closer to its heart we came.

Wood and water, wind and tree,
Wisdom, strength, and courtesy
Jungle (Scouting) favour go with thee.
