All Workshops Include Lollypop Farm: Friend To Animals Badge Looking for a unique and memorable experience for your Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts? Lollypop Farm is proud to offer workshops that give scouts hands-on, behind-the-scenes experiences centered on the Girl Scouts of the USA and Boy Scouts of America badge requirements. Each workshop provides a behind-the-scenes tour and interactive classroom activities that fulfill the following animal-themed badges, achievements, and electives: Girl Scouts of the USA Daisy Scouts: Birdbath Award Brownie Scouts: Pets Badge Junior Scouts: Animal Habitats Badge Cadette Scouts: Animal Helper Badge Senior Scouts: Voice for Animals Badge Boy Scouts of America Boy Scouts: Veterinary Medicine Merit Badge Boy Scouts: Nature Merit Badge Boy Scouts: Bird Study Merit Badge Boy Scouts: Reptile and Amphibian Study Merit Badge Boy Scouts: Fish and Wildlife Management Merit Badge Boy Scouts: Pets Merit Badge Boy Scouts: Dog Care Merit Badge GIRL SCOUTS OF tHE USA Girl Scout Workshops are scheduled by request for troops. The program fee for all Girl Scout workshops is $15/scout. All workshops booked include 2 group leaders for no added cost. Additional parents, guardians, and siblings are an added $10 each. Daisy Scouts: Birdbath Award In this workshop, scouts will learn to care for animals and themselves through creative experiences. Scouts will learn that animals have the same needs and feelings as us! We will learn how animals communicate with one another and how we can communicate with our pets. Scouts will tour Lollypop Farm to learn how the needs of different animals are met. Brownie Scouts: Pets Badge In this workshop, scouts will learn basic pet care and the responsibility of owning a pet. We will learn what our pets need to be happy, healthy, and safe. Scouts will create a budget for keeping a pet and practice grooming techniques for pets. We will tour Lollypop Farm and see in person how animals communicate with one another and with us. Junior Scouts: Animal Habitats Badge In this workshop, scouts will learn about wild animals and the habitats in which they live. We will discover what an adequate habitat needs to have for an animal to thrive and how we can help to protect those environments. Scouts will create bird feeders that provide wild birds with food and nesting materials. We will tour Lollypop farm and learn how our pets’ needs are met by their habitats. Cadette Scouts: Animal Helper Badge In this workshop, scouts will explore the connection between humans and animals and how we help each other to thrive. Scouts will learn about amazing animal heroes and the many ways that animals enrich our lives every day. We will tour Lollypop Farm and explore how rescued animals are capable of helping their humans. Senior Scouts: Voice for Animals Badge In this workshop, scouts will learn to understand animal issues worldwide and know what they can do to help. We will explore a variety of problems that animals face and what is being done in response. We will tour Lollypop Farm and discuss the specific issues that affect shelter animals and what Lollypop Farm does to fight those issues. request a Workshop for your troop BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA BSA Merit Badge Workshops are prescheduled for individual registration and may also be scheduled by request for groups. Please note: Some badges may require prerequisites and/or follow-up work after the workshop. The merit badge description specifies any requirements NOT MET by the workshop. All workshops booked include 2 group leaders for no added cost. Additional parents, guardians, and siblings are an added $10 each. Certified merit badge counselors provide workshops. Veterinary Medicine Scouts will learn the roles, responsibilities, and training required of veterinarians and registered veterinary technicians. Scouts will tour the Klingenstein Veterinary clinic and observe the clinic staff as they provide medical care to the animals at Lollypop Farm. Scouts will be awarded the veterinary medicine merit badge after completion of a report of their visit. No prerequisites are needed for this merit badge. Time: 2.5 hours Prerequisites: None Follow-up: Report of visit Pricing: $25 per scout (two group leaders included for free) Dog Care Badge Scouts will learn the history of the domestication of dogs and the characteristics of major breed groups. Scouts will learn about responsible dog ownership, including house-training, obedience training, socialization, and care. Scouts will tour the Klingenstein Veterinary Clinic and learn about the medical needs of dogs and basic first aid. To meet the requirements of this merit badge, scouts must present evidence that they have cared for a dog for at least 2 months. Scouts will be awarded the dog care merit badge after completion of a report of their visit. Time: 2 hours Prerequisites: Care for a dog for 2 months Follow-up: Report of visit Pricing: $15 per scout (two group leaders included for free) Nature Scouts will learn the relationship between natural factors in an ecosystem, like plants, animals, and other organisms. Scouts will create a field notebook and be able to identify the required number of birds, mammals, fish, plants, and soil/rocks. Scouts will construct a feeding station for birds and record what birds use for 1 month. Scouts will be awarded the nature merit badge after completing their field notebooks. No prerequisites are needed for this merit badge. Portions of this workshop will take place outdoors, so please dress accordingly. Time: 3 hours Prerequisites: None Follow-up: Record species Pricing: $27 per scout (two group leaders included for free) Bird Study Scouts will learn the uses of bird study and the terms used when describing birds. Scouts will learn how to use and care for binoculars for bird watching. Scouts will create a field notebook and be able to identify at least 20 species of wild birds. Scouts will construct a bird feeder to attract wild birds. Scouts will learn about the different adaptations of birds, the functions of bird songs and calls, and the conservation statuses of birds. After completing their field notebooks, Scouts will be awarded the bird study merit badge. No prerequisites are needed for this merit badge. Portions of this workshop will take place outdoors, so please dress accordingly. Time: 2.5 hours Prerequisites: None Follow-up: Record bird species Pricing: $20 per scout (two group leaders included for free) Reptile and Amphibian Study Scouts will learn the characteristics and habitat types of 10 reptiles and amphibians. Scouts will learn the roles of reptiles and amphibians in their ecosystems and the differences between major groups of reptiles and amphibians. Scouts can identify different species of reptiles and amphibians and discuss them within a group. Scouts will be awarded the reptile and amphibian study merit badge after presenting evidence that they have completed ONE of the following: maintain a reptile or amphibian for one month OR study a reptile or amphibian weekly for a period of 3 months. No prerequisites are needed for this merit badge. Time: 2.5 hours Prerequisites: None Follow-up: Observe 3 months or care for 1 month Pricing: $15 per scout (two group leaders included for free) Fish and Wildlife Scouts will learn the purposes of fish and wildlife management and the practices used and problems faced by fish and wildlife professionals. Scouts will construct, erect, and regularly check 2 bird feeders. Scouts will observe and record at least 25 species of wildlife*. Scouts will determine the age of 5 species of fish from scale samples. No prerequisites are needed for this merit badge. Portions of this workshop will take place outdoors, so please dress accordingly. *May include mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish Time: 2.5 hours Prerequisites: None Follow-up: Record species Pricing: $20 per scout (two group leaders included for free) Pets Badge Scouts will tour Lollypop Farm to learn about pet care, feeding, and housing. Scouts will learn how to train pets to learn at least three tricks. To meet the requirements of this merit badge, scouts must present evidence that they have cared for a pet for at least 4 months.
